America’s 250th Celebrations Heat Up in Cochise County!

HEREFORD, Ariz., June 18, 2026 – Cochise Strong is compiling all the ways to celebrate America’s 250th all year in Cochise County and there’s a lot going on! They have put together a one-stop hub (https://CochiseStrong.org/250th) where individuals and organizations can be inspired with creative commemoration ideas; post contests, events, pictures and patriotic messages; find local celebrations to participate in; enter an Adult Civic Literacy Challenge with a chance to win $250 for the 250th; and more.

Mayors, city councils, and the Cochise County Board of Supervisors are considering proclamations in support of America’s 250th. Bisbee and Douglas mayors have both made proclamations since last week encouraging all residents, civic organizations, businesses, and community groups to participate in commemorative activities, educational programs, and celebrations throughout 2026 that recognize this historic event and affirm our unyielding commitment to the freedom and independence of the United States of America.

“This a lot bigger than one day,” says Chris Stevens, founder and director of Cochise Strong. “There are commemorations and celebrations going on throughout the year all across the country.”

The “Spirit of ’76” is alive in Cochise County, but there’s also a somewhat competitive spirit at play. Benson and Tombstone have gone all out for America’s 250th with decorations and events all year long. Other towns have much in the works as well. All seven Cochise County cities have events listed on the https://CochiseStrong.org/250th webpage, with more to come.

Multiple contests are underway. Cochise Strong is promoting civic historical education and is offering $450 in cash prizes for their Adult Civic Literacy Challenge. They’re also running a contest to get more people involved. There are no entry fees for either of these contests.

Stevens says, “Public reading of the Declaration of Independence is especially appropriate on its 250th anniversary, and it only takes about 10 minutes. This is one of many ideas you’ll find on https://CochiseStrong.org/250th.”

Individuals and organizations are finding ways to go big for America’s 250th. Cochise County residents can post their events, a message of patriotic support, pictures of their decorations, historical facts, notable figures, or what they love about their country or community.
